Pesach Tiyul

chol_hamoed_sm

It was an NBN attendance record when approximately 400 Olim participated in the annual Pesach Tiyul. This time it was a trek into the deep South… the Negev that is.

Olim hiked the canyons and wadi, enjoying the arid air and pristine scenery. When their feet grew tired the Olim embarked upon a camel caravan riding through the plains on these “ships of the desert”. A scene reminiscent perhaps of those historical days when we were led out of Mitzrayim into the wilderness… A most appropriate tie-in to Pesach. Continue Reading…

NBN Spotlight - Dov Newmark

dov_newmark1I grew up in Ilford Essex, a suburb of London that in the late 70’s boasted the largest Jewish community in the UK. Unfortunately due to assimilation it now competes for the title of one of the smallest communities. Having attended a Jewish primary school, my upbringing was more traditional than religious. It was not until I started learning for my Bar Mitzvah, all those many years ago, that I was introduced to Youth Minyanim & Bnei Akiva by my teacher, who made Aliyah to join a Garin at the age of 20 six months Continue Reading…

NBN UPDATES

This is the policy of Misrad Haklita for Olim who will be traveling overseas during the first 6 months after Aliyah (or while getting sal klita payments):

  • As a rule, any exit from Israel will stop sal klita payments. Upon return, the Oleh needs to notify the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption’s local branch .
  • Any visit outside of Israel of less than 30 days will not stop sal klita payments. Continue Reading…

Summer Camp in Israel

The hot summer weather is making its way to Israel, and with it comes thoughts about what our kids will be doing during the summer months.

Summer camps can play an important, positive role in the social and emotional development of our children. Many of us fondly recall, decades later, programs, counselors, bunk mates, and outdoor adventures from our own camping experiences. For an Oleh child, a camping experience in Israel (be it day camp or overnight) can have an even more powerful, longer-lasting effect than it would have overseas. Continue Reading…

Lag B’Omer

lag_bomer_smIf you couldn’t make it to Meron, this was likely the next best thing! A few hundred people come to the NBN sponsored Lag B’Omer bonfire. As always there were many new faces and a nice balance between Israelis and Olim. Many participants brought along their instruments lending their talent and a musical air to the festivities. Olim sang, made smores, and schmoozed into the late hours of the night. Continue Reading…
